Recently, a novel (new) coronavirus was detected in hundreds of people worldwide. A "novel coronavirus" is a strain that has not been previously found in humans. This novel coronavirus can lead to fever, cough and shortness of breath.
Most people with these infections reported exposure to a large seafood and live animal market in Wuhan, China that was closed on January 1, 2020. No people have been diagnosed with this novel coronavirus in New York State.

CAMS & Charles B. Wang Community Health Center and New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene held a press conference today in partnership with Coalition of Asian American IPA, NYC Mayor's Office, Council Member Peter Koo, Council Member Margaret Chin's Office, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adam's Office, Maimonides Medical Center, Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Chinese American Nurses Association, Visiting Nurse Service of New York, and Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association and to discuss the latest updates on the novel coronavirus outbreak. With public education, proper screening and isolation practices, the public and provider communities will be best prepared to face and manage this new respiratory infection effectively.
