What Should I Bring?
We suggest you bring a day pack with the following essentials for hiking, which include
- Bug Spray
- Water Bottle
- Flashlight
- Trail Food
- Sun Protection (Sun screen, sunglasses, hat)
- Whistle
- A light protein-filled snack It won’t fill you up, but give you energy when you need it.
A hike leader will have a first aid kit on hand, but it is suggested that you also include a small one in your day pack.
How much water should I bring?
You should have about 1/2 your weight in ounces of water a day. If you are 100 lbs, you need to drink about 50 oz a day. For hiking, it is a good idea to bring that amount to avoid dehydration.
What Should I Wear?
Dress or pack for all possible weather conditions in the forecast for the day. Layers are the best way to go for the outdoors, as you can add or remove as you go. Light long sleeved clothing is recommended, even in the summer, as poison ivy thrives during this time. Ticks are common on any trail. The best defense is always long (but light) clothing with bug repellant at the cuffs for the best defense.
It is highly recommended that you wear sturdy shoes designed for hiking (e.g. hiking boots, trail runners) or sneakers with laces. It is not recommended that you wear brand new shoes that you do not want to get soiled.
It is important to RSVP!
We don’t want to leave anyone behind nor do we want to lose anyone along the way! Please make sure you RSVP for this event.
